Criminalistics Laboratory Technician

Prepares standard chemical solutions and reagents to specific requirements by mixing various concentrations of chemical compounds.  

Performs routine chemical analyses on biological samples and bulk-controlled drug specimens.  

Operates a chromatograph for the routine analysis of specified classes of evidence submitted to the laboratory.  

Performs routine toxicology extraction procedures of blood and urine specimens and prepares extracts for subsequent analysis.  

Operates an immunoassay instrument to screen urine specimens for drugs of abuse.  

Prepares reagents for use in forensic biological procedures.  

Performs specimen accessioning and storage rotation.

Assists higher-level laboratory personnel by performing routine laboratory tests and analyses of evidentiary specimens, as directed.  

Performs routine screening tests on sexual assault evidence.  

Prepares evidence collection kits (e.g., GSR, sexual assault kits, etc.), under close supervision.  

Orders supplies, packages, and documents evidence. 

May perform special projects requiring routine chemical analysis, under close supervision.
