The Illinois State Police (ISP) Division of Forensic Services is seeking highly qualified professionals to join our team as a Forensic Scientist III Chemistry/Drug.

As a Forensic Scientist III (Chemistry and Drug), you will serve as an advanced laboratory specialist responsible for:

  • Under general supervision, conducting both routine and the most advanced/complex forensic analyses/examinations of controlled substances, cannabis, intoxicating compounds, and related evidence in the Drug Chemistry section.
  • Assisting the supervisor by preparing statistical reports on cases worked, assists with administrative functions, and performs related duties in the section.
  • Performing quality and safety checks and conducts routine maintenance on the infrared spectrophotometer, gas chromatograph/mass spectrometer, and other instruments as assigned.
  • Continues to develop as a forensic scientist by reviewing pertinent literature to keep abreast of all current information in the field.

Compensation:

Anticipated Starting Salary: $7,602 monthly; Full Range $7,602 - $11,110 monthly

Minimum Requirements (Chemistry/Drug):

  • Requires a bachelor’s degree in natural science or forensic science. Option B requires, in addition to the bachelor's degree in natural or forensic science requirement, a minimum of 20 semester hours of chemistry with a total of 60 semester hours of nature science.
  • Requires five years of professional forensic science work.
