Why does the job exist?
This position will support the Drug Screening section of the Forensic Toxicology Bureau.
How does it get done?
Duties include accessioning of Implied Consent blood kits collected by law enforcement agencies throughout the state, data entry and review, preparation of chemical solutions, inventory of reagents and supplies, daily and weekly instrument maintenance, and other daily operational tasks as needed. The incumbent will perform carbon monoxide testing for the New Mexico Office of the Medical Investigator and may be trained to perform drug screening by Enzyme Linked lmmunosorbent Assay (ELISA). This position will assist with subpoenas and court calendar assignments, preparing discovery orders, answering phone calls and emails from law enforcement personnel and/or law offices. Every effort should be made to support the facilitation of the judicial process. Incumbent must represent the bureau professionally during telephonic and in person interactions, as well as provide thorough documentation of all telephonic communications.

Ideal Candidate
One-year paid experience in chemical experimentation and analysis in a laboratory setting, any experience (academic or otherwise) with chromatography or immunoassay analyses, willing to follow instruction and unafraid to ask questions, able to work well and collaborate with others.
Minimum Qualification
Bachelor's degree in Chemistry or closely related field. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling four (4) years may substitute for the required education and experience.
Employment Requirements
Must possess and maintain a valid New Mexico Driver's License. Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course certificate from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive a Defensive Driving Course certificate as a condition of continued employment. In state and out of state travel may be required. Successful completion of Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) is required.

Working Conditions
Work is performed in a fully functional laboratory containing biological, chemical, physical, and radiological hazards. Incumbent will be required to use all applicable safety equipment provided by the employer and follow all safety precautions specified by the employer. There will be extended standing, repetitive trunk/arm/hand/neck movements with computer usage or assay/methodologies utilized. Work involves using high voltage electronic instrumentation, and high-pressure gas cylinders. Ability to lift/push up to 50 lbs.
