Full-time
Application Deadline: Jan 31, 2025
Forensic Toxicology

What You'll Do

Are you ready to dive into the dynamic worlds of forensic science and analytical chemistry as a senior-level Forensic Toxicologist at the Center for Forensic Science Research and Education (CFSRE)? This unique role is a blend of academic rigor, innovative research, and practical casework designed to drive the field of forensic toxicology forward toward new heights. This Forensic Toxicologist will be joining the CFSRE's NPS Discovery team lead by Dr. Alex Krotulski.

A senior-level Forensic Toxicologist plays a critical role in the forensic laboratory, conducting high-level analytical and interpretive work in the field of toxicology. This position requires a deep understanding of analytical chemistry, pharmacology, and forensic science principles. Our senior-level Forensic Toxicologist will be responsible for the analysis of biological specimens (e.g., blood, urine, tissues) for the presence of drugs, novel psychoactive substances (NPS), poisons, and other toxic substances to assist in public health and safety initiatives. In this role, you will:

  • Conduct Advanced Toxicology Research: Lead and participate in research projects and innovative advancements that expand the horizons of forensic toxicology, particularly in the analysis and characterization of drugs and NPS in biological specimens.
  • Dive into Authentic Casework: Analyze forensic case samples, interpret results, and prepare comprehensive and concise reports.
  • Collaborate with Leading Stakeholders: Work closely with public health, law enforcement, medical examiners, other forensic scientists, and more, in the United States and around the world, to investigate cases and new information regarding changing drug landscapes.
  • Develop and Implement Methods: Design, validate, and apply analytical methods for drug testing, including identification and quantitation of drugs, NPS, adulterants, and other relevant substances.
  • Share Expertise: Present your research findings at national and international scientific meetings and contribute to high-impact scientific and academic journals.
  • Educate and Mentor: Provide instruction and guidance in both bench and classroom settings, leveraging partnerships with prestigious universities where CFSRE professionals hold adjunct professorships and teaching roles.
  • Uphold Scientific Standards: Maintain rigorous laboratory practices, ensure the integrity of data, and adhere to the highest ethical standards in all forensic analyses.
