What You’ll Do in Your New Role
- Direct laboratory operations, schedule and supervise analysts, technicians, clerical and administrative support personnel
- Introduce ideas for method development and improvement, implement research and method development ideas post completion and serve as a forensic toxicology subject matter expert
- Provide consultation to accident investigation boards, criminal investigative services and the medical examiner community related to toxicological findings
- Perform all levels of analytical data review; make analytical and administrative decisions based on scientific evidence and case history for final case review
- Duties may include providing screening and confirmation data, quantitative data, mass spectral analysis (GC, LC, TOF), corrective action measures, SOP updates and revisions, final tier data review authority, participate (as an analyst) in research and method development programs, complete and implement research and method improvements and perform any special testing as directed by laboratory management
- Present research and method development findings to internal senior leadership and external program authorities
- Interact with senior level leadership such as Division Chiefs, Chief of Staff, Director and Deputy Director AFMES, and high-level military and civilian medical, health care and technical personnel
- Provide leadership as the senior contract person within the laboratory
Required Qualifications
- PhD degree in toxicology, biochemistry or physical or biological sciences from an accredited university with three (3) years’ experience in forensic toxicology
- or have earned a master’s degree in toxicology, biochemistry, chemistry or the physical or biological sciences from an accredited university and at least four (4) years’ experience in forensic toxicology with an emphasis in postmortem and human performance toxicology
- American Board of Forensic Toxicology (ABFT) certified or eligible for board certification
- Desired knowledge and experience in preparing and editing technical or general documentation using various software packages such as Microsoft Word, Microsoft PowerPoint, Microsoft Excel and Windows. Preparing and editing management support documentation and casework related reports
- Lead publication efforts related to laboratory findings
- US Citizenship
- Must be able to obtain Public Trust clearance
