We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Technical Supervisor to join our team in our rapidly growing CLIA certified and CAP Forensic Drug Testing accredited laboratory in Minneapolis. The successful candidate will oversee the technical elements related to screening urine and oral fluid samples for the presence of drugs and metabolites, partner with members of the technical and production teams to ensure laboratory standards and protocols are followed, and work to maintain our quality standards. This role involves direct technical supervision and instrument/assay troubleshooting and cross-functional collaboration within the laboratory team. This role will report to the Technical Operations Director. The responsibilities listed below are key for this role; other duties may be assigned.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Leadership:
    • Provide training and mentorship to laboratory personnel on screening analyzers, best practices, and troubleshooting.
    • Assist in screening training and perform competency assessments for laboratory technologists.
    • Collaborate with production teams, quality assurance team, and technical operations team.
  • Technical Responsibilities:
    • Manage and troubleshoot screening instrumentation (Beckman AU5800s). Perform routine maintenance as needed. Partner with external service providers as needed.
    • Review quality control and proficiency testing results. Review annual and biannual verifications.
    • Perform patient/donor testing as needed to support overall laboratory operation.
  • Compliance and Quality Assurance:
    • Ensure continued compliance with state and federal regulations, laboratory accreditation standards, and laboratory procedures.
    • Develop and update standard operating procedures (SOPs) for screening department.
    • Ensure proper documentation and record-keeping in accordance with laboratory policies and procedures.

Qualifications:

  • Education:
    • Bachelor’s degree in Toxicology, Chemistry, Biology, or a related field required. Additional education preferred (M.S.)
  • Experience:
    • Minimum of 5 years of experience in laboratory testing in a medical or forensic environment is required. Preference will be given to candidates with prior experience in toxicology.
    • Previous experience with automated chemistry analyzers is required. Prior experience with Beckman AU5800s is preferred. Prior experience with laboratory information management systems is desired.
